With more than 30 years of experience operating the MAX I-III facilities it is now commissioning MAX IV, which was inaugurated 21 June 2016. SciLifeLab, MAX IV, and ESS, have joined forces in a unique and powerful collaboration within life science. The goal is to provide better prerequisites for utilizing their large-scale research infrastructures across Sweden, also for sectors outside academia, such as the life science industry and healthcare sector. Lund University plans to have premises for research and education on this site – several of them with links to MAX IV and ESS – and has now commenced work to establish operations in the area.

Men ljuskällan har en energi som är mycket högre och en stråle som är intensivare än någon annan i världen. Med synkrotronljusets korta våglängder kan man få syn på detaljer som annars är omöjliga att se. Den intensiva strålen visar hur atomer och molekyler binds till varandra och låter oss förstå mer om livet och materialen. De forskar inom bland annat materialvetenskap, strukturbiologi, kemi och nanoteknologi. 200 personer är idag anställda vid MAX IV-laboratoriet. MAX IV, Sveriges största och mest ambitiösa satsning på forskningsinfrastruktur, är världens ljusstarkaste synkrotronljusanläggning som invigdes i juni 2016. MAX IV-laboratoriet är en nationell forskningsanläggning med Lunds universitet som moderuniversitet.

Varför det behövs två anläggningar

MAX IV is the largest and most ambitious Swedish investment in national research infrastructure. It is the brightest source of x-rays worldwide when inaugurated in June 2016.
